They take most of their inspiration primarily from 90’s grunge icons such as Hole, PJ Harvey, Babes in Toyland, Sonic Youth and the obvious Nirvana. Cherry Venom is very lyrically driven music that aims to embody female rage in balance with the softer side of things. Shoplifter is a three piece band from Victoria that plays a direct and noisy blend of alternative rock and post-punk that has yielded comparisons to bands like Dinosaur Jr., New Order, and Unwound. They have an EP under their belt, and have plans to record a second EP as well as release a split 7” with Vancouver’s Checked Out. Hose is a 4 piece post-hardcore band from Victoria. Initially formed around an idea of re-examining and experimenting with the parameters of heavy, noise driven guitar music, their sound has grown into an unpredictable mix of angular, dissonant guitar and bass work, technical yet spastic drumming and anguished, tormented vocals. Incorporating elements of early 90s post-hardcore, math rock, noise, drone and general outlandishness, they have set themselves apart from other heavy Victoria outfits, while never losing sight of the experimental, abrasive tendencies that serve as core elements of the band’s identity.
