Featuring an incredible lineup of emerging local musicians, this night will be a rich blend of Jazz, Afrobeats, Latin, R&B, and Neo-Soul, celebrating the diverse musical landscape of the city. At the heart of the evening is TK The Artist, hosting and performing in celebration of his debut full-length project, A Journey Under the Stars—a body of work three years in the making. Entirely crafted by Victoria-based artists and musicians, this album is a love letter to the city's evolving culture, while also paying homage to its deep roots in Jazz and Soul. The Story Behind the Music The journey began on a balcony, where TK and Alvin Mwanicky —having first met at a jam session—spent late nights listening to their favorite musicians and experimenting with ideas. What started as casual jams soon became a serious pursuit: How far could we take this music if we fully committed? Enter Jamaican-Canadian producer/musician Jayden Brown, who played a pivotal role in shaping the album’s sonic identity and landscape. His creative hub became a home base for TK’s artistry, with his family deeply involved—his sister, Shanise, lending her vocals on multiple tracks, and his partner, Violet Beech, designing the album’s stunning cover art. About Tk The Artist Hailing from Nigeria, TK is a dynamic Afro-Soul/Jazz fusion artist who seamlessly blends the melodies of Gospel, R&B, and Afrobeats into a mesmerizing performance. Known for his rare ability to sing and play drums simultaneously, TK’s music fuses the soulful essence of Neo-Soul, the infectious rhythms of modern Hip-Hop and Afrobeats, and the uplifting spirit of Jazz. 2024: A Breakthrough Year This past year, TK and his band made waves, sharing the stage with major artists like Cautious Clay and Earl Sweatshirt at Phillips Backyard Festival, as well as Reggae legends Caleb Hart, Shurwayne Winchester and Clinton Fearon at I-Land Fest and Victoria’s Ska & Reggae Celebration. TK, in collaboration with Jayden Brown, released six singles in 2024, leading up to his album release. Tracks like "All Night" and "Strawberry" have received airplay on CBC Radio, CFUV, URP Radio, and Victoria Buzz. “Exercise” made it to the semi-finals of American songwriter contest while “Grateful” was a top 5 track in Unsigned BC’s Song of the summer 2024 Song Contest. An Afro-Soul/Jazz-Fusion Experience The night will begin with a performance from Victoria’s very own: The Phigs. The Phigs are a funky, fruity musical delicacy, blending improvisatory spontaneity, infectious rhythms, and intricate arrangements of original compositions, jazz standards, and funk covers. Their unforgettable energy makes them a staple in Victoria’s music scene—whether busking downtown, playing at local venues, or tearing down the roof at a party near you. Currently, they are gearing up to release their first studio album in Spring/Summer 2025. Sofia Leónne & Friends Taking the stage next is Victoria’s rising Latin sensation, Sofia Leónne. Originally from Guadalajara, México, Sofia Leónne crafts soulful, seductive music that seamlessly fuses R&B and Latin rhythms. Now based on Vancouver Island, she has been making waves with her magnetic stage presence and dynamic performances. Joining her on stage are: 🎤 El Slow Mo – A bilingual rapper from México, known for his sharp lyricism and electrifying energy. 🎸 Daniel Sar – A Colombian multi-instrumentalist, master of Latin grooves and exceptional guitar work. Together, they create a fresh blend of Latin rhythms, funk, and R&B that’s captivating audiences everywhere.
