—An Evening with Twenty Fingers, featuring Doug Cox & Steve Mitchell After an almost 30-year hiatus from playing together, veteran West Coast musicians/songwriters Doug Cox and Steve Mitchell return to Victoria’s The Coda on February 27, 2026 as Twenty Fingers. With Travels with Charley, the acclaimed early 1990s Vancouver Island folk/bluegrass combo, Cox, Mitchell and vocalist Jackie Janzen recorded two CDs and had a free-wheeling weekly residence at Fernwood’s beloved George and Dragon Pub before splitting ways in 1995. Too late for the Newgrass that swept North America in the late 1970s and 1980s; too early for the Americana movement to come: Travels with Charley was somehow both ahead and behind its time. Flashforward, and in 2025 Cox and Mitchell find themselves onstage with In Spite of Ourselves, bonding once again through the storied and timeless songs of John Prine. After 29 years apart, Cox and Mitchell discover that the years have brought their artistic visions, their friendship, and their two voices together. After the Prine tour, in a burst of creative energy, the pair writes four new songs and the Twenty Fingers live show emerges from a forest of stringed instruments: dobro, tenor ukulele, resophonic guitar, a priceless Michael Dunn acoustic, and a British reso-aluminum mandolin.
